What Are Vowels in Sanskrit?

In संस्कृतम्, vowels are called अचः or स्वराः. But how many exist? Some claim 9, others 13 or 16. To know for sure, let’s refer to the माहेश्वरसूत्राणि — the sound system revealed by Lord Śiva.

The Real Count According to Pāṇini
